The beginning of the end!

Remember these guys?
Of course you do. If you don't then where the hell have you been the past 6 years?

This is of course the original cast of the worldwide tv phenomenon "LOST". It did indeed begin all the way back in 2004. I believe i had not long left school and had started college. I remember it fondly from a cinema advert. Don't ask me what the film was i went to see but i distinctly remember the channel 4 advert featuring these random strangers wandering around on a beach.

One of us is a conman? One of us is a doctor? One of us is a criminal?

Those little statements ran through my head for days afterwards. What the hell was this show? and what was it all about?

So when it first started on Channel 4, i was amongst all the other eager British fans to find out what lost was.

SPOILERS AHEAD! (For anyone who hasn't seen the end of S5 or any of the show at all)
Fast forward to February 3rd 2010. Pretty much 6 years on from when i first sat and glued myself to the pilot of the show. It was finally here, the last ever season of my favourite program Lost. After seasons past i literally had no idea what to expect coming into this season premiere. The cliffhanger at the end of season 5 was so painstakingly hard to take in. If you're wondering what happened, here's a little hint.

Yep, as season 5 drew to a close, we found some of our Losties in the year 1977 and another set of them in present time on the island which if i remember rightly, going by island time, would fall around about 2007. In the 1977 timeline, the Losties were encouraged by Daniel Faraday (Jeremy Davies) to drop a hydrogen bomb into the hole that led to none other than the Swan Station though in the current 77 timeline, the hatch hadn't been built yet, they had to somehow stop it from being built. We were left at the end of season 5 eager to see what would happen next. Our last glimpse was with our dear Juliet (Elizabeth Mitchell) After a struggle, she eventually set the bomb off and so ended season 5 with a magical white blast.

What exactly did this blast do then you ask? All was about to be revealed as "The Beginning Of The End" was upon us. Season 6 opened with, what i would describe as a, very weird and confusing moment. Let me show you.

It opened and transitioned straight from the white flash that greeted us at the end of season 5, into a shot of our island doctor Jack Shephard (Matthew Fox) apparently sitting on Oceanic Flight 815. This got even more mind puzzling for me when the camera turned to reveal the air hostess Cindy offer Jack that same drink she did all those years back at the beginning of season 1. What was going on here? It seemed to all be starting again, did the bomb actually work then i asked myself? Had the past events on the island just.. never happened?

Luckily after more confusion (that i'll leave out, i don't wanna be spoiling every little detail) this opening scene was explained ever so slightly. These scenes were our season 6 versions of "Flashbacks" though instead they seemed more of a mirrored universe set of flashbacks. Turns out the plane didn't crash on the island and instead landing at its destination.

Meanwhile back on the island itself in the...present time? These "side" flashbacks were really confusing my sense of time within the show, We discovered that those Losties trapped in 1977 were now back in 2007. How it happened exactly wasn't revealed at that point in time, I'm hoping it'll be explained by the end of the series. Jack, Kate, Sawyer, Hurley, Sayid, Jin and Miles were all still at the bomb site but somehow they'd survived the explosion......

I mentioned another set of Losties that were always in 2007. This group consisted of Sun, Frank, Ben, Locke and Richard among others. After the Locke reveal of season 5 what were we about to witness here?

It seemed Locke or "Flocke" as he's becoming widely known as on all the fan forums/sites etc, was now becoming more evil by the minute. He'd all but got rid of Jacob and seemingly had control over everyone around him. This dark friend of Jacob's had now become free from whatever he was trapped in. Using Locke as a guide, body wise, he would somehow manipulate anyone and anything in his way to get to where he wanted to be. It was also revealed that he had some kind of link to our other dark friend "Smokey".

As it stands now i've just watched episode 6 of season 6. A Sayid Centric. In all honesty, it's probably been my favourite of the season so far. Sayid has a big decision to make regarding his position and allegiance. The reveal at the end of the episode was fantastic in my eyes. The season definitely seems to be picking up pace wise and the story arc really seems to be taking shape. One can only wonder what lies in store for us all in the coming weeks. I'll be honest, while i'm understandably gutted that this show is coming to an end, i'm full with a great sense of anticipation to see just how the show bows out in later months. We've been promised all the answers we've been seeking for 6 years. Some of them have already been answered but still hundreds remain. I can't wait to see what they have in store.

So there you have it, the Lost post i originally planned to put up nearer the beginning of season 6. I'm glad i've held off till now though. I've got my head around a few things plot-wise and i'm just glad i'm finally using this blog to its full potential. If only i had more readers who'd admit to enjoying these posts as much as some say they do. I'll be sure to post a little tidbit on each episode in the coming weeks when i get time by the way.
